Billionaire New York businessman Donald Trump assembled a going-away victory in the South Carolina Republican presidential primary election on Saturday, outdistancing Texas Sen. Ted Cruz and Florida Sen. Marco Rubio who were in a close race for second.
Among Democrats in the western state of Nevada, Hillary Clinton captured victory, overcoming an unexpectedly strong surge by Bernie Sanders and potentially easing the anxiety of some of her supporters.
In the South Carolina race, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush and other candidates were lagging well behind, according to early returns.
Clinton won the backing of voters who said electability and experience were important in their vote. But in a continuing sign of her vulnerability, Sanders did best with voters looking for a candidate who is caring and honest
Double car bombing kills 46 in Syria’s
Homs: Monitor

At least 46 people were killed and dozens injured on Sunday in a double car bomb attack in the central Syrian city of Homs, a monitor said.
The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said most of those killed appeared to be civilians, adding that the toll could rise further because of the number of seriously wounded.
Syrian state television gave a toll of at least 25 dead, citing Homs provincial governor Talal Barazi.
It broadcast footage from the scene of the attack in the Al-Zahraa neighbourhood, showing the air thick with dust and smoke rising from blazes started by the blasts.
Firefighters ran through debris strewn by the explosions as security forces and civilians tried to open the wreckage of one vehicle to retrieve a person inside.
Nearby, a charred body was carried away on a stretcher by emergency services workers.
Michigan: 7 killed in parking lot shootings;
suspect arrested

At least seven people are dead after a series of western Michigan shootings in which authorities say they believe a gunman chose victims at random.
Authorities say a 45-year-old man was arrested early Sunday in Kalamazoo.
Kalamazoo County Undersheriff Paul Matyas says the rampage began about 6 p.m. Saturday outside an apartment complex on the eastern edge of the Kalamazoo County, where a woman was shot multiple times and seriously wounded.
A little more than four hours later and 15 miles away, a father and son were fatally shot while looking at vehicles at a car dealership.
Matyas says 15 minutes after that, five people – including a 14-year-old girl – were gunned down in the parking lot of a Cracker Barrel restaurant.
Matyas described the killings as “random murders.”

I am predicting it will be a busy year for all of us and one in which we will be making some quite big decisions as the second flag referendum occurs in March, and local Council and local board elections occur in the latter part of the year around October.
The Government’s agenda is full and the Prime Minister in his Statement to Parliament last week outlined the Government’s comprehensive policy agenda and substantial legislative programme to put before the House this year.
This will reflect National’s four priorities – responsible management of the taxpayers’ money, building a more productive and competitive economy, delivering better public services, and supporting the rebuild of Christchurch.
Urdu language instruction causes grievances, says UNESCO report

Urdu being the language of instruction in government schools has contributed to grievances and political tensions in Pakistan, a new UNESCO report released on Friday said.
“In Pakistan, the continued use of Urdu as the language of instruction in government schools, even though it is spoken at home by less than 8% of the population, has also contributed to political tensions,” the report said.Linguistic diversity: State urged to promote all Pakistani languages
Jamaat Convention: Sirajul Haq says Pakistan going through difficult times
QUETTA: The Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami Senator Sirajul Haq has said that Pakistan is undergoing a difficult time mostly due to insiders who have damaged the country in the name of Islam, however some foreign hands were also involved.
Addressing the Nifaz-e-Islam Convention organised by Islami Jamiat Talaba, he said that Islamic Sharia had not been implemented in the country for even a single day due to the conspiracies hatched by the enemy, adding that “we want to see an Islamic system in Pakistan where the Chief Justice of Pakistan takes guidance from the Holy Quran.”
He said that aristocracy in the form of Chaudhrys, Nawabs and Sardars are eating at the very roots of Pakistan, adding that no difference can be seen in the collective social life of Pakistani Muslims and the Indian population, as both countries take guidance from our co-inherited British legal literature
