Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Thursday hoped the opposition parties will "see reason" and the Goods and Services Tax (GST) Bill, which is held up in Rajya Sabha, will become a reality soon.

"It (GST) has been supported by most political parties and I am sure others will also see reason and this law will become a reality very soon," the minister said while inaugurating the two-day India Investment Summit in New Delhi on Thursday.

He said the government is also working on streamlining the direct taxation system. "We want to rationalise our direct tax system in order to make it one of the most competitive regimes in the world comparable with what competitive economies elsewhere have."

Killing of Teen Girls in Park Was Gang Motivated, and Suspects Knew Victims: Chief Beck
Gabriela Calzada, left, and Briana Gallegos are shown in photos posted to their respective Facebook pages in late September 2015.
The young men who were charged with killing two teen girls in a Montecito Heights park knew their victims and were "motivated by hatred between gangs," LAPD Chief Charlie Beck said Thursday.
The defendants were identified in a five-count criminal complaint against them as 17-year-old Dallas Stone Pineda, also known as "Trippy," and 18-year-old Jose Antonio Echeverria, aka "Klepto."

They knew their victims, Briana Nicole Gallegos, 17, and Gabriela Calzada, 19, Beck said at a news conference Thursday afternoon.
"This is a case that’s gang motivated," Beck said. "These victims were brutally murdered. They were known to the suspects who committed the murder. They were also specifically targeted by those suspects
Thousands rally downtown for Chicago Teachers Union
Thousands rally downtown for Chicago Teachers Union
rongs of protesters organized by the Chicago Teachers Union clogged Loop streets during Thursday's evening rush hour to voice opposition to the district's move to slash budgets and stop paying much of teachers' pension contributions.
The show of force by the union's rank and file comes three days after a 40-person bargaining team unanimously voted down a four-year contract offer from Chicago Public Schools.
Christa Lohman, a member of the CTU's "Big Bargaining Team," said the district's offer was vague and included language teachers thought was aimed at forcing them into accepting a deal.
"No economic layoffs sounds fabulous," Lohman said during a march to City Hall as news helicopters hovered overhead. "But we've been around awhile. After 15 years, you start to think that never happens."
As protesters surrounded Bank of America's local headquarters and blocked traffic, CTU Vice President Jesse Sharkey said the bargaining team's rejection of the city's offer was "a sign we have a serious democratic process."
